THE TASTE PROJECT

TASTE: INCREASING CHILDREN’S FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CONSUMPTION

WHAT IS THE “TASTE” PROJECT?

The TASTE project is jointly led by VIF® and Aprifel (French Agency for Research and Information on Fruit and Vegetables). By combining their complementary expertise, the partners are developing practical solutions for local authorities and families, grounded in robust scientific evidence.

The project is supported by France’s National Food Programme (PNA), National Nutrition and Health Programme (PNNS), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES

At a time when only 10% of children consume the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables, TASTE aims to:

  • Encourage healthier and more sustainable diets rich in fruit and vegetables.
  • Raise awareness among children and families while training local-authority staff and school catering professionals.
  • Increase fruit and vegetable consumption by 20% among children aged 6 to 11.

A STRUCTURED
5-STEP APPROACH

  1. Assess the six territories selected for the pilot phase.

  2. Consult and cooperate with local stakeholders to co-design tools, training and resources around identified needs.

  3. Educate and raise awareness, including through the production and distribution of the Légume Party film.

  4. Roll out the initiatives progressively, first in pilot municipalities and then more widely.

  5. Monitor and evaluate progress using questionnaires before and after project implementation.

A WIDE RANGE OF TOOLS TO SUPPORT THE PROJECT

TASTE provides a broad range of educational and playful resources, including:

  • a sensory discovery workshop to explore fruit and vegetables in new ways;
  • a range of indoor and outdoor games;
  • a personalised booklet entitled “My Fruit and Vegetable Passport” for children;
  • a family recipe book for cooking together at home;
  • information leaflets for parents;
  • and many other resources adapted to local needs.
